Dr E.J. Dillon (British)

Dillon was an Irishman, born in Dublin in 1854. He initially trained for the priesthood, then switched to the study of Oriental languages at the College of France in Paris, followed by a Doctorate at the University of Leipzig, followed by two more at Leuven and Kharkiv. He was Russian correspondent for the Daily Telegraph for many years. He was a friend and associate of the Russian statesman Sergei Witte, who he accompanied to the Peace Conference at Portsmouth, New Hampshire following the Russo-Japanese War. He was a prolific author, with a lengthy list of published works.
