C.H. Ellis (Australian)

Ellis was an Australian from Sydney. He was educated at Melbourne and Oxford Universities. He served with the Middlesex Regiment in France, Egypt and India in WW1. In 1918 he was posted to N & E Persia as a member of the Malleson Mission to Meshed and Transcaspia. He took part in operations in Transcaspia in 1918 and 1919, and also in the Afghan War of 1919. Later on he served with the staff of the British High Commission in Constantinople and The Balkans, and he also served in various overseas postings in Europe and the Middle East. In WW2 he served as a colonel on the staff of missions in the USA and the Middle East. In retirement he continued his associations in the affairs of Eastern Europe, the Near East and Russia.
