Major-General Sir John (Tavish) Davidson KCMG, CB, DSO

Davidson was educated at Harrow and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. He was commissioned into the Kings Royal Rifle Corps in 1896 and served in the Second Boer War. At the outbreak of World War 1 he joined the staff of 3rd Corps, then on the formation of 1st Army in 1915 he became Operations Officer for Haig, the Army Commander. When Haig became C-in-C, Davidson became his Director of Operations. After the war he was an M.P. for 13 years.
