Rudolf Binding

Binding was born in 1867 in Basel, Switzerland. His father was a Professor of Law at Basel. Binding studied both medicine and law without qualifying in either. His consuming passion was horses. He had served with the 14th Hussars. At the outbreak of war he accepted the command of an independent squadron of dragoons. He served on the Western Front from 1914 to 1916, then spent 4 months as a staff officer in Galicia, then he returned to the Western Front where he served on a divisional staff. He became a noted writer after the war.
