Richard Garrett
Garrett joined the Army in 1939; he served in Norway, where he was cut off by the Germans and then escaped in a fishing boat to Shetland. He was later taken prisoner in North Africa and spent the rest of the war in POW camps. After the war he became a freelance writer.
