Lieutenant-Colonel M. Kincaid-Smith
Kincaid-Smith was a British Liberal politician and soldier. He was commissioned into the 9th Lancers and promoted to Lieutenant in 1895. He was then seconded to the Colonial Office after which he was promoted Captain in 1903. He then became ill, and he resigned his commission in 1908. In the meantime he had been elected an M.P. for Stratford on Avon in 1906. In 1909 he resigned his seat and left the Liberal Party to advocate compulsory military training. On the outbreak of war, he was recalled from the Reserve and appointed a Staff Officer. He was appointed an Assistant Provost Marshal in 1915. He was made a temporary Major in the Wiltshire Regiment, then a temporary Lieutenant-Colonel while commanding a school of instruction, then of musketry.
