Michael Lucas
Lucas' interest in the 9th East Surreys was sparked off by his family connections - he discovered that a great uncle had served on the Western Front with the 9th Battalion. He made an in depth study of the history of the battalion, especially R.C. Sherriff's part of the unit. In his other life he read History at the University of Sussex and worked for the NHS for 38 years.
Lucas's son is an expert on the Saxon Army in the Great War.
