John Dillon

Dillon was born in Sheffield in 1945. His father was in the RAF and at one point was stationed in Rutland where John went to Oakham School for 3 years. It was there that his love of history was sparked by the only teacher there whose name he could recall -Major "Bertie" Bowes. He joined the RAF as an apprentice, then spent three years as a cadet at Cranwell, then he was a navigator on Vulcans. He left the service in 1976 for a 30 year career in IT. He then took a degree in History at Reading, where he got a First; then he took a Masters and finally a Doctorate. part in a number of battlefield tours with Richard Holmes.
