Admiral Reinhard Scheer

Scheer was born in 1863. He joined the Navy in 1879 as an officer cadet. He progressed through the ranks and at the outbreak of war he was commander of the Second Battle Squadron of the High Seas Fleet. Then he took over the Third Battle Squadron, which consisted of the newest and most powerful ships in the Navy. He commanded the Fleet at the Battle of Jutland. In August 1918 he was promoted to Chief of the Naval Staff. He died in November 1928.
