Eric Partridge
Partridge (1894-1979) was a New Zealander. He was a lexicographer of the English language, particularly of its slang. He moved to Australia in 1907 with his family, went to the University of Queensland, and in 1915 enrolled with the AIF and served with the infantry in Egypt, Gallipoli and the Western Front. He founded the Scholartis Press in 1927, and published over 60 books in the four years until it closed down. Partridge himself wrote over 40 books relating to the English language.
