Christopher Haworth
Haworth went to the Front, near Ypres, in 1918. He had been an apprentice Law Writer, and he was aged 19. He was typical of the new, amateur, army which replaced the Regulars who by this period had mostly been wiped out. His story is a personal, highly individual account of the last months of the war. He had joined the forces on his 18th birthday, 8th May 1917. He was drafted to Ireland on the completion of his training. There, he was transferred (from where he doesn't say) to the Royal Scots Fusiliers. In February 1918 his battalion moved to Scotland, from there he was drafted to the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, and then sent to France, where his story really starts. The exact date of his appearance on the Western Front is not given, but it appears to have been mid to late summer 1918, with the worst of the German offensives over.RCC7467 March to Armistice 1918 (Haworth)
