Sir William BeachThomas
Beach Thomas was born in 1868 into a religious family. He excelled in education, including attending Oxford University He began contributing to The Globe, which led to a full time post at The Outlook Magazine, followed by a post at the Daily Mail in 1907.
He was best known for writing a column about country life.
After war broke out he was sent to France to report the situation there. As journalists were not allowed at the front, he was arrested and sent home. The next year he was allowed to cover the war, but his reports were heavily censored.
His knighthood was awarded after the war for his services to journalism. He continued writing until his death in 1957.
