Sir George Aston
Aston was born in 1861 and died in 1938. He was a Major-General, so he would have been aged 53 when the war started and could easily have either been at that rank then, or attained it during the war. We have not been able to find any further details, other than that he wrote a key biography of Foch, amongst other similar books. It is reasonable to suppose that he was an active participant in the war, and most probably in Intelligence, if his remarks in the Preface to his book "Secret Service" (q.v.) are to be taken seriously.RCC7787 Secret Service (Aston)
