Charles Delvert

Delvert was born in Paris in 1879. He graduated from the Ecole Normale Superieure, later becoming a History teacher. During the war he rose to the rank of captain in the French Army, and served with distinction on the Western Front, especially at Verdun, where his company mounted a heroic defence at Fort Vaux. After the war he returned to teaching in Parisian schools. He died in 1940.
