Professor Firuz Kazemzadeh

Kazemzadeh was born in 1924 in Moscow to an Iranian father and Russian mother. His father served in the Iranian embassy in Moscow. After completing primary and secondary education in Moscow, aged 16, he moved with his family to Iran. Then in 1944 he travelled to the USA and entered Stanford University. He graduated with distinction in 1946 and gained an MA in 1947. In 1950 he received his PhD (in Russian History) from Harvard University. He moved to Yale in 1956 as Professor of History and remained there until his retirement in 1992. He was the author of a number of books on the history of Russia and Iran, He died in 2017.
