Sir Hugh S. Gladstone M.A., F.R.S.E., F.Z.S.
Gladstone was a Scottish Ornithologist and landowner. He was born in 1877 and died in 1949. He served with the K.O.S.B. in the Second Boer War as a lieutenant, he won two campaign medals and five clasps. In the First World War he rejoined the K.O.S.B. as a captain, being Mentioned in Despatches. Later he moved to the General Staff with the War Office in London serving in an administrative role. In 1920 he became Chairman of the Wild Birds Advisory (Scotland) Committee, on which he served until his death. His formal title was Sir Hugh Gladstone of Capernoch; he served as Lord Lieutenant of Dumfries from 1946 to 1949.RCC7934 Birds and The War (Gladstone)
