Major-General Hunter Liggett

Liggett was born in 1857. He served in the U.S. Army for 42 years, spanning the Indian Campaigns to the First World War. He attained the eventual rank of lieutenant-general, and served in the Indian Wars, the Spanish-American War, the Philippine-American War, and the First World War. He also identified possible invasion sites in Luzon in the Philippines, particularly Lingayen Gulf, which were used in World War 2 in 1941 by the Japanese and in 1945 by the Americans. He died in 1935 aged 78.
