Lowell Thomas
Thomas was an American writer, actor, broadcaster and traveller, best remembered for publicizing T.E. Lawrence. He was also involved in the promotion of the Cinerama widescreen system. He was born in 1892 and died in 1981. He attended Valparaiso University, the University of Denver and Princeton. He was a relentless self promoter, which led to him and others being asked by Woodrow Wilson to "chronicle a history of the conflict". The mission was not academic: Wilson needed to increase support for an unpopular war. Eventually, Thomas was accredited to Allenby's forces fighting the Palestine Campaign, where he met Lawrence.....the rest is history. On his return to the USA in 1919 he started giving lectures, which later took him to Britain. He later published "With Lawrence in Arabia", which proved to be one of the most popular books of the inter war years.RCC8027 With Lawrence in Arabia (Thomas)
