Colonel W.N. Nicholson CMG, DSO
Nicholson was born in 1877 and educated at Charterhouse and Trinity College Cambridge. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Suffolk Regiment in 1900 and served in the Boer War. After this war he completed the Staff College course and served as Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster General on the staff in South Africa, then to the Highland Division, T.F., at Perth - in the same roles. He spent the whole war as an administrative staff officer in Britain and on the Western Front. He served in Hong Kong on the South China staff after the war, then he commanded 1st Battalion Suffolk Regiment at Colchester before finishing his career as Assistant QMG in Northern Command, India.
