Alan H. Smith

Smith was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and educated there. He trained for the chemical engineering industry, but in 1951 he joined the CMF as a recruit gunner in R Battery, 21 Field Regiment RAA in Newcastle and was commissioned in 1954. He had regimental service with British and Canadian outfits, then moved to Australia, where he had a distinguished career with the Australian Military, retiring in 1968. He then had personnel/human resources positions in major Australian companies. He retired from that career in 1992, and then undertook his "third" career as a military author and journalist.
