Pioneer Battalions in the Great War: Organized and Intelligent Labour
There were 68 Pioneer Battalions which saw service in the Great War, all of them from illustrious regiments. Their contribution to the war effort was immense and must not be underestimated. This book traces the reasons why they were created, the work they performed and the dramatic transitions many of them had to undergo. The book also examines why Pioneer Battalions have never received the recognition they deserved.
There is a Foreword by General Sir Hugh Beach, GBE KCB MC.
This book was originally published by Leo Cooper in 1997.
