Veiled Warriors: Allied Nurses of the First World War

This book seeks to cut through the "ministering angel" perception of World War One nurses, and to tell the real story of the nurses and their experiences of working in a war-time environment. Particularly, the book tackles the relationship between the professional nurses and the VADs, who have often been depicted in a way rather more glamorous than they perhaps deserved. The author advised on the 2014 BBC Television series "The Crimson Field", which was about a Field Hospital in Northern France.
