Publications in English on the German Army are rare enough, even rarer are studies of the individual states armies which constituted the "German" Army. This is an Anglo/German contribution, it is crammed with photographs and the narrative is scholarly yet entirely readable. Not only is there a chronological narrative of the Saxon Army's part in the war, but there is also a series of studies of individual soldiers, which adds human interest to the book.
The book was co-authored by Jurgen Schmiescher.
