This is an interesting and well written story of a soldier's life, encompassing both the First World War (when Hudson won his VC), and the Second World War. Most of the book is about the First World War; Hudson served on the Western Front, then in Italy, and finally (somewhat unofficially) in North Russia with Ironside. This soldier was very much his own man, and the story sheds light on various aspects of the war. Very compelling.
