Cambridgeshire Kitcheners. A History of the 11th (Service) Battalion (Cambs) Suffolk Regiment
This is yet another of Pen & Sword's battalion histories, and so far as we are concerned, the more the merrier! The author's special interest was in the Pals Battalion, this one was more a county wide battalion, interestingly enough recruited in Cambridgeshire for the Suffolk Regiment (although the author does call it a Pals Battalion).
The battalion was sent to the Western Front in January 1916 and took part in the Somme Campaign - 188 men were killed on 1st July.
This was a Suffolk Regiment battalion as Cambridgeshire had only a Territorial, not a Regular regiment. By the end of the war there was a Cambridgeshire Territorial battalion overseas (this one), and three Home Territorial Battalions, but never a Regular one, simply because there never was a regular Cambridgeshire battalion.
