This book was originally published in 1922 by George Allen & Unwin, London. This is a book written by a Quaker about the resistance to conscription during the second half of the war. The book was written by a prominent Quaker at the request of the Committees which represented conscientious objectors to conscription. That being the case, it is not so much a history of conscription as a commentary on the principles which led men to object.
