This is a fairly concise book - about 250 pages of fairly large type - which was obviously published at the beginning of the centenary period of the war; possibly intended more for football fans as opposed to military historians. Not that we are talking it down, it serves as a useful introduction to the role of footballers in the war - obviously covering the usual suspects - McCrae's Battalion of The Royal Scots, The Footballers' Battalion of The Middlesex, and so on.
