Professor Engelstein starts her "Acknowledgements" by observing that this book relies primarily on the work of other scholars; but for all that, she has crafted a magnificent narrative - nearly 800 pages long - of the whole course of Russia in war, revolution, and then civil war. So we have the whole period in one volume.
We would not suggest that such a book would ever replace the wide range of subject books we are building in The Collection, but this is a very high class anchor point for academics, students, and others interested in this period in Russia.
