This book was published in association with the Department of Printed Books, Imperial War Museum.
This is a truly massive book, in A4 format and at 845 pages. It is as comprehensive as it could possibly have ever been. It is not overstating the matter to describe it as encyclopaedic.
It was originally hoped that this volume would be included in the Official History entitled "Naval Operations", but this proved to be impracticable. Nevertheless, it was considered by the Foreign Office particularly that the volume should be prepared. And so it was, in 1937. But for (presumably) obvious reasons, it was felt that it was not suitable for public issue and should be kept private. The title page carries a note to this effect, but underneath that note is a handwritten addition indicating that the book was declassified in 1960.
