The term "stormtrooper" derives from the use by the Germans in the First World War of a new tactical approach to open warfare in the field; sometimes referred to as "blitzkrieg".
This type of approach was largely unexpected and was also successful, in some instances extremely so. That said, the Allies, particularly the BEF and perhaps specifically the Canadians and the Australians, learned very quickly, and similar tactics eventually won the war on the Western Front.
Which is why a study of the original stormtroop tactics is so important. This book is by a professional soldier - a former US Marine Corps officer - and it is written in a very accessible manner but it is also worthy of the better academic.
