This book is an all-encompassing description of the war years on the home front, from the "high politics and low skullduggery" (as the book's dust jacket has it) through the stratas of society. With such a landslide of new books throughout the centenary period, this book, dealing with what happened in government and other stratas of society, might well be an appropriate closure.
