German Military and the Weimar Republic: General Hans von Seekt, General Erich Ludendorff and the Rise of Hitler
This book is about the failure of von Seekt to build a new German Army after the First World War.
Von Seekt had enjoyed a distinguished career in the war, and after it became Germany's Chief Soldier.
His aim was to build a new, efficient Army whose principal task would be the defence of Germany's borders; but in the face of the crippling effect of the Versailles Settlement, and then the antagonism from the "stab in the back" believers, led to a great extent by Ludendorff, he failed in this project , and with it went the Weimar Republic, to give way to a darker future.
