Randall Nicol
Nicol read history at Magdalene College, Cambridge, and afterwards served for ten years in the Scots Guards. On leaving the Army, he read law at the University of Edinburgh and then qualified as a solicitor in Scotland.
His book on the Scots Guards was his first book; he researched it for 12 years, during which time he retired from the law.
He chaired the Regimental History Committee of the Scots Guards and was a member of the British Commission for Military History.
