Robert Woollcombe

Woollcombe was the grandson of Lieutenant-General Sir Charles Woollcombe, the Commander of IV Corps at the time of The Battle of Cambrai. He was inspired to write his book on the Tank Battle at Cambrai in 1917 by the discovery amongst his grandfather's effects of a slim volume which was a reprint of an article in the Journal of the Royal Artillery of July 1928. The volume concerned was entitled "The Battle of Cambrai, November 20th to 30th 1917. By Major-General H.D. De Pree, CB, CMG, DSO".
