This book has a Foreword by Captain Sir Basil Liddell Hart, D.Litt. This is a book written by the grandson of the general commanding IV Corps at the Battle of Cambrai, so he had a very personal connection with the events he was writing about. According to Basil Liddell Hart, who wrote the Foreword to the book, there had been no book-length account of the tank battle written before Woollcombe wrote this book. Since then, of course, there has been a significant number of books published about the affair, and this book, at just over 200 pages of text and less than 20 pages of Appendices and the like, is fairly short; but that should not detract from its place in the bibliography of tank warfare.
