Patrick MacGill
MacGill was an Irish journalist, poet and novelist known as "the Navvy Poet" because he had worked as a navvy before he began writing. He served in the war with the London Irish Rifles (1st/18th Battalion, The London Regiment) and was wounded at the Battle of Loos on 28th October 1915. He was then recruited into Military Intelligence, and wrote for MI7b between 1916 and the Armistice. He was born in Glenties, County Donegal, and a statue in his honour is on the bridge in the town. An annual Literary MacGill Summer School is held in Glenties in Mid July in his honour.RCC7714 The Great Push (MacGill)
