104 officers and ratings died in the "Battle of the Isle of May" on 31st January 1918. The event occurred when elements of the Grand Fleet were transiting the Firth of Forth to conduct exercises in the North Sea. There was a chain of disasters which were all completely avoidable, but in the ensuing chaos five collisions took place, with the loss of two submarines and 104 officers and men. Subsequently there was a major "cover up" by the Admiralty. There is a Foreword by Admiral Sir James Perowne KBE
