N.S. Nash
"Tank" Nash lived in North Berwick. From there he could see the Isle of May, which was the locus for the naval disaster described in his book "K Boat Catastrophe". He was a soldier but had always wanted to be a sailor. For 33 years he wrote a regular humorous column under the pen name "Sustainer" in the British Army Review and The Officer. His interest in authoring the book about "Bombo" Pollard of the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) was that he enlisted himself with the HAC in 1957, three years before he started National Service. He was, briefly, a Royal Fusilier before spending 30 years in the Army Catering Corps, retiring as a Brigadier (but always remaining a member of the HAC).RCC7770 Betrayal of an Army.
