This is a First Edition. Charteris says that he did not keep a formal diary, but kept notes of his views from day to day and of conversations he had with many people in high places. The book does appear very much as a diary, though, as there are day by day entries. Clearly this is a valuable source of material for the student of the British war effort in general, of the Western Front, and of Haig himself.
