The British Army of 1914. Its History, Uniforms, and Contemporary Continental Armies

This is a very useful book which records the history and standing of all British regiments as at the outbreak of war. The information given is very comprehensive. There are also chapters on each of the nations who were combatants in the war, on each side. Oddly, there are chapters about the events on the Western Front up to First Marne, but these are present, we think, merely to describe the organisation of the units, rather than describe the fighting in any detailed manner.
