This is a study of the reaction of the British and wider academic community to the war, and especially to their fellow academics on the Central Powers side.
Where those academics had previously enjoyed a very high reputation, and were widely respected, the war changed this attitude on the part of those on the Allied side, with some exceptions, notably Bertrand Russell.
