Monitors of the Royal Navy. How the Fleet Brought the Great Guns to Bear
Monitor warships mounted the biggest guns ever deployed by the Royal Navy. They played an important part in the Allied efforts in the war.
They were built as cheap, "disposable" ships made out of redundant bits and pieces which the Admiralty happened to have available. The object mainly was to support military operations on land with the colossal firepower of heavy naval guns.
This book covers World War 2 as well as the Great War, but the emphasis is definitely on the earlier conflict. It is well written by an established naval author, and is a worthy addition to the Collection, especially given the slightly esoteric subject.
