This is a very well written, and constructed, account of the military and also political aspects of the four Anglo-Afghan wars, spanning a period of not far short of two centuries. Why do we have this book in the Collection? It is because we are not just about the Great War, but also its consequences and in particular how the areas the war touched - in whatever manner - have continued to reverberate in today's world. The problems of present day Afghanistan must figure significantly in this scenario.
