Defending the Ypres Front 1914 - 1918 Trenches, Shelters and Bunkers of the German Army
This book was first published in Dutch, in 2016 by the Memorial Museum at Passchendaele as "Bouwen aan het Front".
It examines how the German Army developed field fortifications to hold what can loosely be described as the Ypres Front.
The authors, with many years of experience in researching and working on Great War matters, have used an impressive array of primary sources to provide a narrative of what the Germans built, how they built it, and how the designs of such constructions developed throughout the war.
Given that it was the Germans who enjoyed the most permanent and effective of fortifications on the Western Front, this is a valuable book for the Collection.
